Stonehenge Casting: Site Upgraded to Version 0.3

As mentioned in a post from last week and a post from this weekend, Stonehenge Casting has been down to upgrade the site to version 0.3. We are happy to announce we are back up and running.

We’ve made a lot of little and not so little changes to the site. You can see this immediately with the expanded FAQ.

If you have an actor/performer profile on the site, there are several updates you will want to make to show up in searches.

We will break this into several different articles for each feature or page in the actor/performer profile. Here’s what you’ll want to do in the next few days:

  1. Make sure you’re searchable as an actor (assuming you are an actor)
  2. Personalize the new Projects and Preferences page to what you’re looking for
  3. Update your Contact Information, especially your ZIP code
  4. Add details as needed to your Appearance page
  5. Validate your Union Status (if you’re union)
  6. Update details for your Attachments and Links (if you don’t have a headshot and resume, you won’t show up in searches!)
  7. See what your Actor Profile page looks like to producers
  8. Learn how to Submit to a Project

If you have other questions not answered on the pages or in the FAQ, please feel free to Contact Us.

As always, we love to hear feedback. Did you see the update you wanted in this version? What do you want us to include next? Let us know!

Stonehenge Casting: Site down for Upgrade to Version 0.3

As previously mentioned here (as well as via Twitter and our Facebook page), Stonehenge Casting is offline starting now, Saturday, July 12th at 11pm until Sunday, July 13th at 11am Eastern in order to upgrade to version o.3.

Please do not try and log onto to the site at this time.

You will be notified on all our usual channels when the upgrade is complete.

UPDATE, Sunday 11:45am: We have encountered difficulties and will post updates as soon as possible.

Stonehenge Casting: Version 0.3 to go Live Sunday, July 13th, at 11am Eastern

We’re happy to announce we’ve completed our testing and the new version of Stonehenge Casting is set to go live on Sunday, July 13th at 11am Eastern. To do that, we’re going to need to take the site down this coming Saturday evening, starting at 11pm.

We ask that all of you log off from the website prior to Saturday at 11pm. If you try and log in between then and Sunday at 11am, you may experience issues

If you have an actor/performer profile on Stonehenge Casting, the changes mean you will need to update your profile.

We’ll be listing all the major changes, but it includes:

  • A new “Projects and Preferences” section
  • New fields in the “Appearance” section (currently named “Physical Information”)
  • New fields in the “Attachments and Links” section (currently named “Attachments”)

We also have some new production companies joining the pilot. From hearing about their projects, we’re confident many of you will look forward to their casting notices.

Stonehenge Casting: Ask for May, Settle for June

We’ve been testing the latest version of Stonehenge Casting (Team J’s online casting tool). We’re especially excited for producers to start using the new project module.

We were really hoping to get this up and running in May. However, there’s some new features, including some users like you have asked for, that aren’t working quite as we’d like them yet, so hang tight and watch this space for the official launch date.

Stonehenge Casting: Look for version 0.3 in the month of May!

Given the April Showers we’ve been getting, those flowers better be impressive.

On the happier side of things (for us anyway), we’re very hopeful that the work we’ve been putting into the next version of Stonehenge Casting will put you in a mood, if not exactly the same as receiving a bouquet of flowers, at least in the relatively cheery mood.

We’re finalizing code and checking it twice, but expect the official launch date before the end of May.

In Remembrance: Colin Heichman

One of the highlights of running Team J is working with the many talented people who have been part of the team over the years.

That makes all the sadder to report that we’ve confirmed Colin Heichman passed away earlier this month on April 15, 2014

Colin’s work for Team J benefitted hundreds of people who might not even realize it: for several Stonehenge auditions, he served as both the videographer of everyone who had their monologue taped — as well as an editor of the finished product now seen by thousands on YouTube.

I also had the pleasure of working with him on a number of 48-hour film projects with Tohubohu Productions, where he, along with regular editors Brad Hartland and William R. Coughlan, won multiple TIVA Peer awards for editing.

“Detail-oriented” doesn’t begin to describe Colin. He was obsessed with getting all the details right — sometimes maniacally so. We would sometimes joke about it, but he was a consummate team player, pointing out why he was working to make this edit or that element work” just so” — yet not allowing perfect to be the enemy of good.

As much as I enjoyed working with him as a collaborator, I looked forward to seeing some of his projects come to life. I especially remember a superhero mockumentary he was kind enough to share with me that I still find fresh and pointed. In times like these, even when you can find joy in the past, it’s hard not to feel sorrow at a future that will not be.

You can share your memories of Colin both here and here. Note that I expect both guest books to close as is custom (the latter says it will close 5/23/14).

From me and everyone here at Team J, our thought and prayers go out to Colin’s family. He will be missed.

The Next Version of Stonehenge Casting is Coming. Plus Workshops!

We should be able to announce the release of version 0.3 of Stonehenge Casting, Team J’s electronic filing cabinet and casting tool, before the end of this month.

In the meantime, Team J’s Bjorn Munson has been talking with groups about conducting seminars and workshops in the DMV in conjunction with some of the area’s great film and arts organizations. Potential topics could include:

  • DOs and DON’Ts when submitting to casting notices (similar to #s 6 and 6a of the Casting Notes Series)
  • Tips and Tricks for Cold Readings
  • 10 Essentials for Casting Happiness (again, taking from much of the Casting Notes Series)
  • ? ? ?

If you have ideas, go ahead and comment on our post on Facebook or via Twitter.

Stonehenge Casting to be down for Maintenance 3/5/2014

We’ve been informed by the company that hosts StonehengeCasting.com that they will be doing some hardware upgrades which include the servers we’re on.

That means on Wednesday, March 5th, from 10pm Eastern until Thursday, March 6th at 1am, you can expect the site to be unavailable.

We will confirm the start and end of this three-hour window. Yeah, it’s longer than we’d like, but they do this very rarely and we’re sure the Web server is super-groovy-keen (that’s a technical term).

Incidentally, this is one of the reasons we have this blog on separate hosting.

Stonehenge Casting How-to: Uploading Headshot and Resume

We know many of you have created profiles at Stonehenge Casting.

However, for many of the profiles, we’ve noticed they’re missing the all-important headshot and resume.

Simply put: if you don’t have a headshot, casting people will ignore your profile.

In case you are one of those actors, here’s a couple tips to help you in uploading your headshot and resume onto the site.

First, make sure the file format and size are correct. Just in case you missed it on the Attachments page:

  • Headshot files need to end in .jpg, .jpeg, or .png and need to be 1mb or less (1,000k).
  • Resume files need to end in .doc, .docx, or .pdf and need to be 500k or less (0.5mb)

In addition, we are investigating a newly discovered issue when uploading a file with a long filename or with special characters — i.e. ( & _, etc.

We’re not sure if it’s either or both, but if you rename your files “headshot.jpg” or “headshot.jpeg” or “resume.pdf” as the case may be, that may do the trick. As you may have noticed, the system renames your files anyway.

(We’re looking into the exact root cause with our developers).

Second, as of version 0.3, you no longer need to upload both your headshot and resume at the same time. However, you do need to click the “Save” button for the new headshot or resume (or both) to be saved to your profile.

We hope you continue to find Stonehenge Casting useful.
